Swimming

I had double mastectomy with LD flap reconstruction 3 weeks ago. I think swimming will help my recovery. At what point is it safe to go swimming post op?

Hello Hazell1964

Thank you for posting your question.

Recovery from breast reconstruction surgery is different for everyone and it is usually recommended to build up activity gradually. It is important that your wounds are fully healed before starting exercise, such as swimming. You may find it helpful to talk to your breast care nurse, or plastic surgery specialist nurse (if you have one) for advice - they will be able to make recommendations based on your individual circumstances. They may also be able to refer you to a physiotherapist who can advise which exercises would be recommend for you at this stage of your recovery.

Our information about exercise after breast surgery has some more information.

You may also find it helpful to post in this area of the forum to hear other people’s experiences of exercise after LD reconstruction.
