Swimwear after treatment

Hello! Since completing treatment I have struggled to find beautiful swimwear. Specialist swimwear on the market shouts “mastectomy!” and it is hard to find regular swimwear which will allow me to either comfortably go without a prosthesis or to wear one. I am working with a talented swimwear designer and have designed a collection of swimwear which I am looking to launch this year. I’d love to speak to some ladies who love to swim and have also found swimwear challenging. please do get in touch! thank you in advance! Mary

Hi I like swimming but haven’t yet ventured back. I’m 7 weeks post mastectomy but start chemo next week so will now have to wait until I’m all finished with chemo and radiotherapy. I haven’t yet bothered with a prothesis( just wearing the knitted knockers ones) and was a bit scared to swim with one in Incase it fell out

In my experience modern one piece costumes are very tight and nothing could fall out of the speedo costume I bought so I could swim at my local Bannatyne health club. They had a few changing cubicles with their own lockable door so I always changed in private. I would have liked to be less self conscious - but I didn’t want to have people gawping at me. So I managed to keep my breasts to myself the real one and the reconstructed one.

Hi. I am 8 weeks post rgt mastectomy and left reduction. Finally ready to go swimming after a delay in healing, t junction site on reduction.
I have always been big boobed and paid for fantasie wired swimwear, but after looking at all specialist mastectomy sites, I am reluctant to order anything.
I have been measured now as an E cup, down from a HH, every cloud! I want to buy well fitting swimwear but size 14, 16 etc, to me is not the way forward and I want to try things on.
I would be very happy to road test any items for you??
Also, I want pretty swimwear for holidays not functional. Has anyone tried sewing pockets in a normal swimsuit that you can at least try on in shops?
Thanks

Wishing you much love with your chemotherapy Dumbledore. If you would like me to keep you in the loop about the swimwear feel free to follow on my new brand insta site or sign up on the website.

Hello Wirraltc
thank you for taking the time to reply. I would love help with fitting - so important that I try lots of different body sizes.

Here are my insta and website & email details - probably best if we get in touch that way to not block up the forum! Hoping all going well with your recovery!

PS.
forgot to mention -

  • Pockets - yes I have done. The issue is that you need to be pretty selective to find swimwear which is stretchy/strong enough (particularly if your prosthesis is heavy) and that the cuts work (I personally find the “side boob” area is where I need coverage more than the cleavage area.
  • styles - my designs are ideal for holidays/pool/beach. A couple of them are sporty and better suited to lengths at your local pool. I will have 2 bikini tops & 2 bottoms also.

Hi Seagulls.
I also am just cracking on with a Speedo without any prosthesis. I was initially self conscious in changing rooms but quite happy 2 yrs on to strut around and not give a monkeys if someone has a stare!
However, I have found lovely beach/holiday one and two pieces hard to find - they often gape where you dont want them to and I want something nicer than a speedo to where to the beach and on holiday. Hopefully the range I am launching will fill this gap !
Here are the details if you would like to keep in touch

All power to your elbow but at the moment I am gardening not swimming. I may get back to it again as it’s very soothing. I got some kind of itchy rash when I last went and it put me off a bit. I should have had a shower after I went swimming and used the hot tub. You never know what might be in the water even though they do try and keep it clean. I think I had a condition called hot tub folliculitis which made the skin on my chest get a rash and itch a lot. I was showering before swimming but forgot to go after swimming too.
