It’s understandable that you have questions about switching from ibandronic acid to zoledronic acid. Whilst both medication are part of the same family of drugs called bisphosphonates, whether it is possible to switch will depend on your individual circumstance. Bisphosphonates in breast cancer are given for different reasons, such as whether you have a primary or secondary breast cancer, along with your risk of osteoporosis. The drugs also vary in how they are given, along with how often and for how long they are needed. For example, ibandronic acid is often given as a tablet, whilst zoledronic acid is given as a drip.
We would suggest you speak with your oncologist or breast care nurse to discuss if it is appropriate to switch. You could also contact another pharmacy in your area to see if they have stock of ibandronic acid.
