Switching from Tamoxifen to Aromasin

Hello

My oncologist has just recommended switching to aromasin after 2 and a half years of tamoxifen. Has anyone else done this? What changes if any did you notice?

Hi,
I changed after 2 years of Tamoxifen, last August. I’d expected to go on to Arimidex so was rather surprised. I think it’s down to the individual doctor. My BCN told me that recently published research showed that 2 or 2 & half years of Tam followed by Aromasin had shown good results. I think it was also said that there were fewer side effects. I was lucky to have no noticeable side effects from Tamaxifen. I have had lots of aches and pains and stiff joints since changing but I’ve been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my hands which must have been developing over a long time. Apart from that i’ve noticed nothing. Do make sure that you have a dexa scan to check the strength of your bones as all of these aromatose inhibitors are hard on the bones and you may need calcium + Vitamin D supplements.

Hello. I was originally supposed to be doing two and a half years of Tamoxifen followed by two and a half of Aromasin - it’s quite usual apparently. In fact it was eventually decided that I would go straight on to Aromasin for the 5 years.
Best wishes

Thanks Both - I have been referred fro a dexa scan - waiting for it to come through

I think I may well have the aches and pains as I am a bit arthritic

Best wishes
