Yesterday I had the 1st of a planned 5 radiotherapy sessions. Today when I went back for the 2nd session, they didn’t do it because my breast was too swollen (>5 mm). This means the planned radiation dosage is no longer adequate because the volume of breast tissue has increased.
The told me to let my body rest today. Tomorrow, they’ll assess if the swelling has reduced enough to go ahead with the original plan. If it’s still too swollen, they’ll need to re-scan and re-plan.
Has anyone else experienced this? What happened? How long was the delay?
I understand and appreciate they are precise and careful. But I felt so frustrated, disappointed and upset earlier that there’s further uncertainty and delays after everything else. I’ve already waited 5 months to start radiotherapy, and I have to travel 1.5 hours away to the clinic. I was so looking forward to finally getting it done and over with, and getting on with my life.
@beachfox Thinking of you, everyone reacts differently to radiotherapy, I was quite uncomfortable after having 15 rounds however after lots of cream all was well.
Wishing you well, hopefully you will be able to continue with the treatment and tick another box.
Health and happiness going forward with the biggest hugs Tili
Thanks so much for your kind words Tili, really appreciate them. Fortunately I was able to resume the radiotherapy sessions the next day as the swelling had reduced enough. And I’ve been slathering on the cream!
oh dear the first day must have been awful because you were so hyped up about starting and frustrated with the travel back and forth for nothing. Thank goodness things are better now, but keep taking painkillers if you get any burning as I did, and rest as much as you can in between. I got sun burn type skin after a few days and put a pillow under the burnt bosom to stop it waking me up at night. I went to work so that was a good distraction from it. I had 15 sessions altogether 5 a week for three weeks after work Monday to Friday
