SWOLLEN FEET & LEGS
SWOLLEN FEET & LEGS hI EVERYONE, JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS BEEN SUFFERING WITH SWOLLEN FEET & LEGS? i AM ON LETROZOLE (FEMARA) AND POMIDRONATE EVERY 4 WEEKS. PLUS GABAPENTIN 180MG PER DAY!! I’M VERY TIRED AFTER UPPING MY MORPHINE AND GABAPENTIN, AND WONDERED IF MY SWOLLEN FEET COULD BE PART OF IT?
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU - IF YOU HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM.
MANY THANKS: POPLARLADY XXXXX
Swollen feet and legs since going on Femara, much worse since Epirubicin chemo. Onc says it’s neuropathy and have lost ALL my leg and foot reflexes. Have awful nights [burning thighs] and uncomfortable days [burning shins].
Failed to tolerate Morphine. Tramadol keeps me awake with twitching leg. Amitryptiline [think this is Gabapentin or related] makes ne judder at adequate dose. Wore support stockings for lympho in lower legs but none in thighs until feet became too hot and swollen. Feet have been worse since trying and stopping Morphine. Don’t think Pamidronate has affected feet or legs.
So if anyone has the answer I too would love to know it. dilly
SWOLLEN FEET & LEGS Hi Dilly, Thanks for the reply to my post. My goodness, you are in a much worse state than I am, and I’m already fed up with the swollen feet and its only just started. I also have burning thighs (left one) when I lay down in bed (It’s a nightmare!!)
I’m wondering if this is all related, as I’m also on Amitryptilline too!!
I think I’ll do some research and get back to you. We are going on holiday in May, and I would like them to be down by then, as my feet always swell in hot countries.
Once again thanks Dilly, watch this space!!
Love Poplarlady xx
Poplarlady it’s worth asking your GP to refer you to your Lymphoedema Clinic/nurse as it/she may be able to deal with your swolllen feet. I got help from this [until the Morphine].
To the best of my knowledge burning thighs are caused by either Cellulitis [need antribiotics from GP] or Neuropathy- nerve damage.
My onc says that burning thighs when lying dwn may be damage to the 2nd lumbar vertebra and has had me blasted with RT in case there is something pressing on spinal cord. Have had possible slight improvement three weeks later but nothing conclusive. Anyway it’s not the Amitriptyline because BTs preceded it…
That’s about all I know- any use to you? best wishes, dilly
Swollen feet and hands Hi,
I suffered with swollen hands, ankles and feet when I was on taxotere 2 years ago and again with Xeloda and was informed that it was a neuropathy problem that was caused by the chemotherapy. I was advised to take Alpha Lipoic Acid which is a supplement often used by Diabetics who suffer with neuropathy. Anyway, it made a real difference to me and I have been taking it ever since.
Hope this helps.

BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS Dear All,
I constantly read through all the posts, but unfortunately alot of the jargon and medical terms mean nothing to me. My Mother-in-law was diagnosed with Secondary cancer in the Liver and the breast bone, and 2 spots in her back (they have come back inconclusive), the problem I have is that my MIL refuses to ask any questions, and we have to respect that, BUT…
Since starting her chemo in January she seems to have slowly gone down hill:
She currently has diabetes, high blood pressure (which now is apparently low), anemia, there was suspision of a blood clot in her leg (we found out today thats not the case), she is pretty much housebound which is slowly progressing to bedbound, she is constanttly tired, hardly eats (has lost almost 4 stone), has the shakes, she has pressure sores, an ulcerated mouth, tongue & throat, sickness, extremely swollen legs, and her haemoglobin level is so low that she is now currently in hospital AGAIN having her 3rd blood transfusion (6 pints everytime shes admitted), shes has suffered nose bleeds today, she goes from being constipated for days to the other extreme, she has been told today that her ammune system is so low we had to wear aprons and latex gloves, she has now been told shes has a blood bug (2nd time), she has been on constant drips since Friday, Glucose, antibiotics, another one to do with her blood (plasma is what she told me today?), and she was given a chest x-ray at 11 0’clock last night, when I asked her why she said she didn’t know, she won’t ask the questions because she doesn’t want to know, thats her way of dealing with it and we have to respect that, but could anyone tell me if all of the above is down to the chemo or is it more? They did tell her that the chemo was very strong and shes had 4 out of the 6…
Thanks for listening.
