Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had suffered with similar symptoms? I had a mx and diep flap recon back in Oct 2009 and now with this hot weather my right leg and ankle has become swollen and puffy with fluid and feels really tight and sore. I was wondering if when they dissected down to release the artery in the original op, the blood supply has been affected and will this be part of life from now on?
Hope someone can help.
Many thanks,
Marjay
Hi Marjay,
I don’t want to worry you but have you been to your GP to rule out a DVT (deep vein thrombotis).
Just that i have had similar problems recently (i am on tamoxifen which increases the risk of DVT…but have not had DIEP surgery) and i had a suspected DVT and i underwent the necesary tests before this was completely ruled out.
DVT’s can be life threatening as the blood clot can move to your brain or to your lungs…i would urge you to se your GP…if it is a DVT (hopefully it is not)it can easily be treated.

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for the info, I am off to docs tomorrow for a “sign back cert” as returning to work so will mention it when I see her. I can only get relief if I sit with it up, at least it gets me out of the housework!!! but I can’t see me working with it at the moment - good excuse to enjoy the good weather, lets hope it is nothing too serious.
Regards Marjay
Hi Marjay,
Good luck for tomorrow and keep us posted.
Debbie
Hi Debbie,
Just to keep you updated. Saw my GP who thoroughly examined my leg and foot and informed me that it was not a dvt but had to be something to do with my diep surgery. I have got to do a lot of walking each day and wear the anti embolic stockings that I had to have during my hospital admission. In this weather it is absolute torture but I do wake up with a super slim foot/ leg!!! She reckons it is to do with disruption to the lymphatic drainage caused by the surgery and given time it will settle down. I am also due to see my surgeon on the 14th July so will bring the subject up with him when I go there. At least it doesn’t appear to serious, just inconvenient. Thanks for your advice,
Marjay xxx
