Swollen lymph node biopsy

Hi all,

I am completely new to all this and feel like I have been slapped in the face with this sudden and unexpected news. I found a small, hard mobile lump in my left armpit 2 weeks ago which both the GP and inital consultation at the hospital felt were benign, either a cyst or fibroadenoma.

Turns out from the ultrasound I had today that it is a swollen lymph node and the scan showed another ‘unusual’ mass in my left breast.  I had several core biopsies taken and whilst the staff were brilliant at trying to console me I work in the medical profession and do not expect a good result from this.  The radiologist was quite grim and I am assuming it is BC with lymph node involvement and I am terrified to put it mildly! I’m 31 and awaiting results in 3 days.  This is awful, I have no one to talk to at the moment as all my friends are away for a period.  I’ll be calling the bcc line tomorrow for sure!

Thanks for reading!

Hi greensilkscarf,

Welcome to the forum.  Waiting for appointments and results is really tough.  I’m sure you’ll find support on here from fellow members who understand what you’re going through.

Do give the Helpline a call- as you mentioned.  They can offer practical information as well as emotional support.  They’ll be open at 9.00am.  (9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays).  The number is 0808 800 6000.

Take care

Very best wishes

Hi greensilkscarf

I’m sorry you’re going through all this worry and that your friends are away right now - it’s really hard because it really helps to have people around to talk to and to comfort you whilst you’re waiting.  The BCC line is extremely helpful - I’ve used them a few times so hopefully you’ve managed to speak to somebody by now.

I also know how hard the waiting is - and will be thinking of you

Waiting for results is so hard, and waiting on your own is much harder. I hope you managed to talk to someone on the bbc line.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get good results tomorrow.

Hugs

Thanks, guys. It’s really nice to read those posts  what a horrid shock to the system this is?! I haven’t actually called the line yet ad i realised what i want is for someone to say ‘oh don’t worry, you definately don’t have cancer’ and of course this isn’t going to happen so I’m just holding together until i know more. Oh well, such is life I guess… Hope you guys keep well Ruby and Cath  x
