Swollen nipple

Hi, I’ve recently finished 5 days of radiotherapy. My skin is not too bad but my nipple is very swollen and sore (twice the size of the other one). Is this a normal reaction or should I be concerned? I don’t want to bother the nurse unnecessarily.

Hello normsgirl,

Thanks for posting.

Skin reactions are common with radiotherapy. It’s difficult to say if the reaction you have is normal. As its painful and swollen do contact your treatment team. They may want to see and assess you. It won’t be bothering your nurse if you call and leave her a message about this.

Some pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen if you can take these may help while you wait.
