Swollen sore breast

Hi. I’m new here and could really use a friendly shoulder.
For about 5 days I have notice my right breast become increasingly sore down the right side and swollen there too.
I had an uncomplicated breast reduction 3 years ago with no tenderness since.
It feels like the initial tenderness you get in the first stages of pregnancy but it’s localised and the tissue feels slightly harder than usuall.
Last year I had a seriously bad scare when I was incorrectly told that they had found a tumour in my liver that they suspected to be ‘inopperable liver cancer’ - they were wrong & I am fine but it’s left me utterly paranoid.
Have I good reason to be worried as I am?

hi purdy
anything that seems different from how your breasts usually feel should be checked out.it could be nothing. if i was u i would phone gp tomorrow and get apptment. your gp if concerned will send u to breast care clinic and if he feels its urgent u will get an apptment within 2 weeks. please get this checked, if it is nothing at least u will get peace of mind.
let us no how u get on
best wishes

Purdy,

I totally agree with Maria in that if you feel your breast feels different from the norm, then it should be checked out. I was diagnosed (Dec '07) with similar symptons to what you are currently experiencing (a hardened area, swollen, tender and painful breast). My GP initially thought that I had an infection because there wasn’t a definite lump and my breast was very painful (usually breast cancer isn’t painful) - whilst writing out the prescription for antibiotics, my GP then decided to send me for a follow-up hospital appointment and further tests. I was absolutely astounded when I was officially diagnosed with BC a few days later - convinced myself that because of the pain, I either had a cyst or an infection as my GP had diagnosed. Best wishes, Jacqui

Hi Purdy

I can only agree with what the others have said. I was diagnosed in Nov 07 following a few months of similar symptoms to yours. The hardened area had actually formed into a lump by the time I went to GP (having out off going for as long as I could).

I definitely think you should get it checked, if only, hopefully, to give yourself peace of mind.

Please let us know how you get on

take care

hi jacqui
my doc told me that because my lump was painful to touch that there was no way it was cancer. i wish he had been right.turned out to be 10.5cm tumour.so i always feel its best to tell anyone who has a lump or feels a difference to get checked out.
hope you are doing well

Hi
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me, It’s so reasuring to have a sympathetic ear.
I’ve been to the doc and he is sure it’s nothing to worry about, just mastitus or some other infection.
He has given me antibiotics and some reasurance and told me to come back in 2 week.
I just so hope he is right…as my last ‘diagnosis’ was slightly off course…
Thanks & fingers crossed
