Hi there. So I have been getting on “ok” with tamoxifen but in the last few weeks I have felt like something approaching a hairball is in my oesophagus, especially just after I take tamoxifen. I get a bit of sternum pain too. I have previously posted about this and am going to see my GP next week but last few days I have started getting cramps in my feet, especially on the right. Could this all be tamoxifen? Is it normal for side effects to rear their head after several months? I thought 6 months in I was probably past anything new showing up but perhaps that was optimistic! Xx
Hi Blue80,
I just had a quick look at the BCN info on Tamoxifen and under other possible side effects it does mention some women get leg cramps at night.

So it’s possible it might be Tamo, though of course with all these things it’s also possible something else could be causing it or maybe contributing to it?
It’s good that you’ve made the appointment to speak to your GP, to get advice and see if they can suggest anything which may help.
You could also give one of the nurses a call at BCN.
I took Tamoxifen for over 8 years…I do recollect I had leg and foot cramps for a while, but I have absolutely no idea if it was connected to Tamo, to be honest it never occurred to me (I’ve always had a very low salt diet and before bc I used to get cramp when I went swimming).
I hope the GP can help with info and advice, plus ideas to manage.
I found side effects fluctuated through my time on Tamo. For anyone else reading this Tamo does really help reducing risk of recurrence for those with estrogen positive BC, so for me I considered it worth sticking with. Though I think I surprised myself re duration!
