Symptoms

Hi ladies I was just wondering what ur symptoms were with Ibc iv been to breast clinic had a scan but all clear but cause off the change in my right breast and the feel they have taken a biopsy so just waiting for my results. My right breast has not very big and feels very thick and full inside and acke could this be a sign of ibc x

Hi Mummytash IBC is very difficult to diagnose. I had a clear mamogram just two months before diagnosis. The only thing wrong with me was that one breast became enlarged and I noticed the area around the nipple had changed colour (cream rather than pink) I never had the rash or the inflamation nor the orange peel effect but my cancer was very aggressive and although I started chemo within 4 weeks of visiting my doctor by the time I had the operation after 6 sessions of chemo the cancer had already spread into all my lymph nodes under my arm and in the chest wall and collarbone. I have just finished 15 sessions of radiotherapy and hoping that they have stopped the cancer from spreading. My bone scan and organ scan have not shown any problems so far, I am hopeful. I did not find the chemo half as bad as expected just tiredness for around 10 days out of the 21 days. The r/t was no problem.Although I have been warned symptons may develop many weeks after finishing the r/t but hoping they wont.

Hi Mummytash

I had all the classic IBC symptoms, nipple had thickening to the skin, skin around nipple had orange peel affect, the breast was very red and hot to touch. I have just completed my lays chemo prior to operation and breat looks almost normal now. I am booked in for mx on 1st March. It has already spread to lymph nodes in armpit so the are all going as well. IBC is very difficult to diagnose but it also rare as well. My mamo that I had done after visit to breast clinic came back clear so it didn’t show on that at all. Biopsy confirmed IBC. I didn’t have any aches in breast either. Have you been checked out? If you are worried perhaps you should make an appointment with your GP to put your mind at rest.

Weme

Hi I was diagnosed with IBC earlier this month - the GP did not think it was anything but sent me to the hospital on the off chance. Luckily they were on the ball and did a biopsy. Mammogram showed up calcification and ultrasound showed up abnormal tissue. Also got several lymph nodes involved and something that is too small to classify on my lung (they are hopeful that its nothing but who would put money on that!). I am 47 years old and frankly scared to death. I had my first chemo last week, only 2.5 weeks after diagnosis which I really pushed for. I am also on a trial using Avastin which has, apparently, shown good results. My advice? Keep pushing, I very nearly cancelled my Dr’s appointment as I thought it was nothing, I am still not sure why I didn’t but so glad I kept it. If you are at all concerned then KEEP PUSHING…If you think the biopsy has missed the spot then have another one.

Hi Mummytash

yes that is correct the only symptoms I had were enlarged breast and change of colour around the nipple area - went white rather than pink. I never had a rash, or dimpled skin.
I had a clear mammogram in March so did not worry too much when I first noticed the enlargement at beginning of June, but by end of June it was getting larger and that was when I went to the Doctor - he immediately referred me to a one stop breast clinic where I had mam, ultrasound, and biopsy and was told before I left that afternoon that although the results of the biopsy would not be available for two days the consultant and radiologist were certain I had IBC - I had already googled my symptons so was expecting that result. I had ct organ and bone scan, saw the onc and started chemo at end of July about 4 weeks after first seeing the doctor. Although I was treated very quickly the cancer had already spread throughout all the lymph glands under my arm and collarbone and the lymphs in my chest wall. After mx in December I have had 15 sessions of rads and waiting to hear if they have cleared the lymphs in collarbone and chest wall. I had all the nodes removed from under my arm. I have had bone and organ scan since, but as they could not get the dye into my veins following the chemo I am now having an ultrasound liver scan to double check that the cancer has not spread. I cannot fault the treatment I have received but would advise anyone who thinks they may have IBC to keep pushing for biopsy with ultrasound (he guided the needles in the areas he could see thickening) He took 5 samples, including the lymphs under my arm, as my radiologist told me that was the only way to ensure you got the right result. He said if the biopsy was taken from the wrong area it could show as normal…I don’t want to worry you, but I don’t want you to leave it if you feel they may have missed something.

I got a letter today about my three yearly mammogram which is the end of April. No problem with that…but then started reading some of the blurb that accompanied the letter and it mentioned symptoms to look out for. It mentioned a rash …and it occured to me that I had noticed some blotchy reddening (actually its more purplish ) several months ago and had another look tody and its still there. I didnt know a rash could be a symptom of breast cancer and up to now didnt pay it much attention. Do you think i should be concerned?

Hi in January started getting a pain in my left boob sometimes a burning type pain other times more like
a pain like a bone of a bra snapped and ribbing but more inside my boob, went to gp who examined both breasts couldn’t find anything was told to take pain killers which I did , didn’t help do went back to gp who examined me again could feel
Anything but sent me to hospital had a mammogram and ultra sound scan everything fine was told unexplained pain to take evening primrose star flower oil tablets was taking these weeks and still am ring doctor and explained pain hadn’t went away so was given naproxen took these for a month still no good rang doctor again who has now prescribed GABAPENTIN I have had a few days of no pain but since Friday I have had pain again in my boob sure the pain is going to the bottom of my jaw (or am i imaging ? Like a tingly pain ). ?? If anyone can help or suggest different tablets please as my mind is still working overtime :frowning:

Deb ,is it worth going back to GP to discuss further referral to breast clinic ,if things are getting worse and you are in so much pain does seem like they should be offering you more than painkillers.Given that you have had ultrasound and mammogram it’s very unlikely to be anything sinister but if it was me I would be kicking up a fuss and asking to be referred .Its your body ,your worry push for them to have another look.May be worth ringing the helpline here too and speak to one of the nurses for advice .Jill

Thanks rang doctors they are ringing me on Wednesday for a discussion x

Good ,if it’s causing you so much pain you need an explanation .

Doctors tang on Wednesday explained about pain in boob and tingly sense station in jaw she said could be a side effecting the tablets she has told me to take 3 tablets twice a day and give me a prescription for naproxen and to give that a go for a few weeks so fingers crossed this might help x

*rang*

Thanks really hope it works just feel worn out by the end of the day pain and tingly feeling goes away when I lie down so not being kept awake through the night x

Thought they were working a bit took edge off mentioned to doc that my face gets tingly didn’t know if it was a side effect told me to up tablets to 2 three times a day which I did but still have tingly feeling rang docs for a repeat pescription and asked if there were any other tablets they could prescribe but she’s on holiday! Just fed up think I need reassurance of some kind as to what is causing pain xxx

Really fed up !! Had the pain again for a few days doctor is ringing on Wednesday seems to be the in thing at our docs ringing rather than seeing !!! Googling my systems but apart from pain which is inside not outside my breast and my face tingling can’t find anything really !! No changes looking at my breast no changes in Nipple and no discharge !!! Just wish someone could say exactly what it is !!!
