Good morning!
I’m after some reassurance after a rollercoaster couple of weeks! 2 weeks ago I collapsed whilst walking my dog - long story short, I had a chest CT and was diagnosed with a low grade pulmonary embolism. I am now on apixaban. I have been referred for assessment at the breast clinic due to a mass seen on my CT.
Apart from syncope (never happened before!) I have NO symptoms - no SOB etc and I can’t feel a lump! I am seriously confused and anxious. Can underlying cancer be responsible for the PE?
My appt is next week and I feel so confused, any advice is appreciated. Xxx
Hello jellyb,
Thank you for posting. It sounds like you have had a stressful couple of weeks and is understandable that you are anxious and confused.
A pulmonary embolism (PE) happens when a blood vessel in your lungs becomes blocked, by a blood clot which has often formed and travelled from one of the deep veins in the leg and is called deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Although people with cancer are at higher risk of developing DVTs, there are many other risk factors that can cause a blood clot and it is not always possible to find the cause of a PE.
You say that your CT scan has shown a mass and you have been referred to the breast clinic for further assessment. It may be helpful to ask the doctor at the clinic if they can explain exactly what the CT scan showed.
