taking trial drugs abroad

I was recently been diagnosed withth secondary bone cancer after 15 years clear.  Its taken six months to get from tri-annual mammogram query to treatment via core biops, a couple of ops, bone biopsy and change of department and loads of scans. I started trial drugs last week, and have to go  back every 4 weeks for an injection.

My husband and I decided a week in the sun was called for and have booked a holiday in the Canaries before the next appointment. Reading the Thomson airline rules, I’m only supposed to carry enough tablets for the flight, and put the rest in hold luggage. As my tablets are given to me in the clinic, I have no prescription for most of them, so wouldn’t be able to replace them easily if my case got lost or delayed, and was intending to keep them in my handbag.

Has anyone been challenged to justify why they are carrying tablets? Has anyone had to provide documents? Am I reading the rules more pedantically than the rest of the world?

Lizzie - I’ve just posted a reply on the other post re: your query.

You may want your clinic with whom you are ding the trial with to provide data - you can be certain these drugs are issued to you alone & would be difficult if not impossible to replace.

Good luck & have loads of fun,

Thanks tournesol, we’ve had a dreary 5 hour drive to Gatwick, and are now recuperating at a premier inn, hoping tomorrow’s flight goes smoothly. My handbag rattles noisily with 5 sets of tablets in original containers, plus an assortment of painkillers, and my husband’s spare meds so I shall be very embarrassed if searched as I still look the picture of health. I’m carrying the latest letter from the hospital, which is over 4 weeks old and doesn’t mention meds,so fingers crossed!
