Tamoxifen - 5 years on !!
Tamoxifen - 5 years on !! I’m just back from a regular check-up at the hospital and because I have done my 5 years and am still pre-menopausal, at the age of 52, they’ve said I can stop taking Tamoxifen. I asked if that meant to gradually cut it out but was told no, just don’t take it anymore.
Does anyone out there have any experience of this as I’d like to know if I’ll have any side effects. I’m taking Clonondine for the sweats so am presuming I’ll be able to cut them down too ??
Love Sue
I cant advise as I
m about to start Tamoxifen . I think if I was in your postion I would check with my GP, the breast cancer helpline here and with your breastcare cancer nurse Specialist at your hospital to try to get a clear understanding why you should come straight off it. There may be a very good physiological reason for it .
Could you advise me about the Clonidine you took. A friend of my neighbour who had a very similar diagnosis to me 10 years ago continues to take Tamoxifen and she has been taking something called Megace but I wonder if Clonidine is better. Can you confirm whether you know whether either of these contain oestrogen.
Many thanks Frances
Hello Frances
Thanks for getting back to me.
I tried using Black Cohosh but with no luck so asked my GP for help. He diagnosed me with Clonindine which has worked well for me. My cancer was Oestrogen + and I’ve looked at the leaflet which comes with them but there is no mention of it so would advise you to ask your GP.
It does say the following ‘The active ingredient clonindine hydrochloride belongs to a group of medicines called vasodilators which cause blood vessels to dilate (widen) thereby increasing blood flow.’
Hope that helps
Love Sue
