Tamoxifen and abdo/pelvic pain

Just need some advice really. I have been recently diagnosed with an ovarian cyst and have been having pains and discomfort in my pelvic area over the past month or so, I have been on Tamoxifen for 2 months now. I’ve only had these pains while taking Tamoxifen never had issues before, not sure if it’s the cyst or Tamoxifen or Tamoxifen has caused the cyst as never had an issue before. Really considering stopping taking the Tamoxifen until I see the onco on 4th January to see if it makes a difference, if it doesn’t then I’ll know it’s the cyst. Would 2 weeks not taking them make a difference percentage wise does anyone know. Thinking of phoning BCN tomorrow to see if she can suggest anyone I can ask, just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience at all?

Hi I’ve been on tamoxifen for 14 months , initially I was having dragging and went to gp who referred me for scan my uterus lining had increased to 19mm from 6 mm anyway I then had biopsy and all ok , the lasts oneI had at the end of September my uterus was back down to 6 mm so it was an initial response to starting the tamoxifen.recently I’ve been experiencing dragging again and sensitivity around ny lower abdomen ,bladder area , also constipation and as I know I’ve only recently had the scan it wouldn’t be my uterus I’m presuming that this is a side effect of the tamoxifen , it’s miserable as its there every day , I do have IBS and it’s almost difficult to know where the discomfort is coming from but having read up on the side effects of the tamoxifen I’m inclined to think it’s that, I’m post menopausal. I suppose we have to weigh up the benefits to the side effects ,any tips for relieving these symptoms ? Thanks x

Hi Julie , in reply to your post as I’ve mentioned initially within the first 3 months of me being on the tamoxifen my uterus lining did increase by 3 times normal width however it was kept a close eye on and back down now inseptember so within the year of first starting it . For peace of mind get it checked but I do believe this is a common side effect . Sending you a hug Jayne x

Hi julie

I was on Arimidex and had a massive cyst on my ovaries. Was fine before starting the Arimidex. I never had any pain though.was on a routine scan that picked it up… I eventually had a hysterectomy as they needed to take ovary away and they decided to go the full hog as I was post menopausal and was one less area to worry about.

Hello Julie

I have pains and a dragging sensation in my pelvic area after being on Tamoxifen for a month. It’s listed  as a side effect in the Tamoxifen leaflet. In contrast,  years ago I had an ovarian cyst which was benign. It was discovered after I suffered two bouts of extreme pain which both passed off after a few hours. It’s was nothing like the pain I’ve got now. It sounds as if your pain is Tamoxifen related. Other contributors have said that it does wear off as your body adjusts to the drug. It’s a good idea to call your. BCN about this so you establish the cause. Hope this helps. Best wishes
