Hi everyone,
Has anyone had cervical polyps while on Tamoxifen. I have been on Tamoxifen for nearly four years now and in a recent smear test they said Ihad cervical polyps and I have been referred to gynaecology.
Anyone else had this problem - what happens now? Seems like one thing after another doesn’t it!
Any news appreciated.
My goodness, someone else is affected with this! I had a smear recently and the GP found a polyp, which she removed. Now I’ve got to have a colposcopy - the GP wonders if it could be something to do with Tamoxifen.(I’ve been on it for 2 years and am otherwise healthy.) Do please keep me posted if you find anything out.
Best wishes
I had cervical polyps removed a couple of years ago and due to malignancy had to have a cone biopsy. I am due to start tamoxifen next week. Is there a link between polyps and tamoxifen? Would be interested to hear if anyone has info on this?
Thanks for your comments - I am seeing a gynaecologist soon about this so I will let you know what happens.
Hi everyone, when I first went on Tamxifen 10 years ago it was part of the treatment that I was screened for polyps every 12 months due to the risk of polyps. During the time I was on it I only had one polyp removed, so I would say particularly in this area its the norm to accept that there is a risk of polyps whilst on Tamoxifen.
Hope all goes well, but I wouldnt worry as it doesnt mean the polyps would be malignant just caused thru treatment.
best of luck Ann B
Hi,
I was on tamoxifen for 4 years and had to have cericval polyps removed which I was told was a result of taking tamoxifen, I was having really heavy periods (am still pre men) which is why they referred me. It was a simple op, day case, havent had any more problems since, I finish tamoxifen later this year, but am due to have another routine ultra sound just to check no more prob. Hope this helps.
Good Luck
Jo
Thanks everyone - it has relieved my anxiety .I will let you all know how I get on after my hospital appointment.
Hello, I think there is a correlation between tamoxifen with polyps or fibroids. I had a surgery done to remove fibroid in March 2008, then I was diagnosed with BC in August. After the mastectomy in Oct 2008 I was put on tamoxifen and shortly after in May 2009 I had a stomach cramp and tiny spottings. I went to see my gynae and had an internal scan done and it confirmed the polyps are now back.
That’s my experience from the side effect. You are right, it is one thing after another. As long as we have to take mediations, there will be side effects, unless you are lucky.
Good luck,

i have just been diagnossed with polyps and im awaiting surgery which will be within 6 weeks x apparently they are common in woman taking tamoxifan
Hello I am new to this website . I had a mastectomy Sept 2014 and the finished chemo may 2015 . Because I am postmenopausal I am on Exemestance . Now today i have been informed that i havr polyps too . Is it easier to have the complete womb removal than a reoccurring . I numerous of operations and tired of hospital and now more problems .
I have been on tamoxifen for 7 years and yesterday they found a large polyp in my uterine cavity which they said must come out. Will have surgery next month and they will test the polyp for cancer cells. Feeling anxious as going through cancer once is more than enough for anyone. They are pulling me off tamoxifen for now until after the surgery. Fingers crossed!
