Tamoxifen and Cystitis

I last had cystitis over 38 years ago.
Woke up this morning with very painful cystitis that has come out of nowhere.
I have seen a few posts about the link, but wondered whether anyone else has any experience?

Hi @Iris65

The “menopause” more specifically the reduced estrogen does make us ladies more susceptible to cystitis/UTI with or without Tamoxifen - but I dare say it does make it more likely.

I was on Tamoxifen for a few weeks, and was showing signs of an infection. Like you, not something I am normally prone to. I had Cloudy, smelly urine. The need to go to the toilet frequently. I made a big effort to drink more and within a few days it passed, and didn’t need to see Dr. I try to keep up with drinking plenty, and so far so good.

Hope you find some comfort soon x

You can now go directly to pharmacists for cystitis meds I believe this saving time for you and the GP

It is more common the more your natural lubrication reduces so you could use some vaginal lubricant such as Yes or hyalofemme. My GP has prescribed both these for me.
