Hi I have just recived a letter saying I should not be taking fluoxetine and Tomoxifen together, I have been taking both for two years.
Has anybody heard of problems relating to this.
Cheers Westy
Apparently fluoxetine speeds up the metabolism of the tamoxifen. Abetter alternative is venlafaxine.

i was on sertraline and tamoxifen which are ok together too.
hi,
hadn’t heard anything about this, I was on tamoxifen and fluoexetine the whole time I was on tamoxifen.
Maybe you could give your BC nurse a ring or contact the helpline here for clarification.
Good luck with the treatment, Julie
Hi,it is thought that some antidepressants could interfere with tamoxifen
MODERATE TO HIGH INTERACTION
paroxetine, fluoxetine, bupropion, and duloxetine
LOW INTERACTION
venlafaxine, desvenlafaxine, reboxetine, escitalopram, and mirtazapine
Best wishes melxx
My doc put me on Paroxetine a few weeks ago as a “diagnostic tool” to see if some throat problems I’ve been having are being caused by anxiety. I’d been on it for about two and a half weeks when, at a Breast Cancer Care info session, another woman just happened to mention that it can interfere with tx. I came off it straight away and since then have been experiencing the same symptoms I had when I first started taking tx (nausea, weight gain, headaches etc.), so to me it really seems that my body wasn’t getting any tx while I was on the Paroxetine. A pharmacist friend looked into this for me and she confirmed that that group of antidepressants does block the tx. Trouble is, a lot of GPs aren’t yet aware of this - mine was very concerned when I reported back to him and said he would look into it. Squirrel x
I have just had it confimed by my consultant not too mix these 2 tablets x
