Tamoxifen and heart palpitations/anxiety

I have been taking tamoxifen for almost 2 months and have noticed - in stages - nearly all the “possible” side effects but not the obvious ones.

Week one was horrific headaches, week 2 was tears durng every conversation, somewhere between week 3 and 4 i was completely unreasonable and would wake up mortified with memories of comments I’d made the day before ( i’m usually quite a kind, reasonable person!) Cramps- in my lower legs- a lot, 2 weeks ago i didnt want to leave the house because i was so anxious, nervous, nausious, scared for my safety which is completely out of character for me as I am a professional performer, I love socialising but am also fearcely independent. I am outgoing - i turned 31 two weeks ago- recently single which i was quite happy about until very recently.

I now have strange feelings of being very unwell, being weak and light headed which are stopping me from going out. That and now what can only be described as heart palpitations. I mean, i catch myself taking mammoth breaths because my heart feels like its struggling so much… Worth mentioning that i havent suffered at all from hot flushes and havent gained weight. If anything ive lost weight, and muscle tone along with it :-/

Can anyone else sympathise with this?

Hi sorry to hear how you are feeling. I can sympathise totally. I took Tamoxifen for three months and suffered with lots of side effects - I had heart palpitations, bladder problems, depression, lower pelvic pain, insomnia, hot flushes - just felt like I wasn’t myself. I can only describe it as I felt like I was not in my own body - felt like a zombie most of the time. I saw oncologist and as I’m post menopause even though I’m only 47 he switched me to Letrozole. I have been taking it for almost a week and have had hot flushes and leg cramps but other than that am ok at the moment. It may be worth seeing if a different brand makes a difference as the tablets have different coatings on them and you may find a different brand helps. We need quality of life so I would either give your breast care nurse a call or make an appointment with your oncologist. Hope you feel better soon.

I had Grade 1 breast cancer --25 doses of radiation to left breast

I suffered cronic crippling leg pains to the point I could barely stand.itching and vagueness, unable to concentrate Took anastrazole for 3ths then given tamoxifen I was fit with no other health issues or on any other medication.  Then out of the blue had a heart attack  (called a SCAD look it up )The doctors instantly took me off the pills. A side effect long term use not good for the heart and very bad for bone density. PILLS decrease your reoccurrence risk  by 5% but long term use increases heart problem risk by 4%. NO on going heart issues- 0n no medication. Please take the pills as your GP prescribed as this was what I suffered and we are all different But it is great to be 58 and back to my old me after a year from hell

GO BACK TO YOUR GP AND TALK ABOUT YOUR CONCERNS

Crikey, I’ve just joined this forum because I’ve been having huge palpitations at night wich alarmed me but I had a monitor for 24 hours and was told I do have fast heart but nothing to worry about. I’m wondering if you have sorted your side effects or still suffering?
