Tamoxifen and skipping periods!

Hello

My name is Emily I haven’t been on here a while! I was diagnosed with bc 4 years ago (in may) and I had a double mastectomy, zoladex for 2 years and tamoxifen. My periods returned January 2011 and have been almost like clockwork, now not so much. I have completely skipped my period this month and haven’t had one for 2. I know that naturally I won’t be going through ‘the change’ as I am only 26! Really really want a baby when I come off tamoxifen next year! Does anyone else have the problem while skipping periods on tamoxifen and does anyone know if my body should return to normal after I’m on it? Gp seems to fob me off saying it will be tamoxifen, but I’m worried that it may be something else?

Thank you for any responses,

Emily x

Hi Emily,
I Have bumped up a thread called “periods after chemo. Did they return and when?” for you as lots of women have posted their own experiences regarding the effects of chemo, zoladex, tamoxifen on your menstrual cycle. You might find some useful info in there. From what you say, it sounds like the tamoxifen could be messing with your system and you are pretty likely to resume to full service when you finish your 5 years. Tamoxifen is an anti oestrogen after all and affecting mestrual cycle is one of it’s side effects when you read the leaflet. I hope you find the thread useful and all the best with your ongoing recovery and family plans. It’s lovely to hear stories from a few years down the line.
