Hi
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and have just joined this forum. I have had a lumpectomy and will be starting radiotheraphy shortly, but my query is around tamoxifen, which I have started today. As well as the anxiety about the many possible side effects I am concerned about my options to start a family. I am 40 years old so time is not on my side. I have received mixed information about when I could take a break from taxmoxifen to start a family - some say one year and some say two years. I was just wondering if anyone had taken a break to start a family and, if so, how long did you take tamoxifen for before the break and were there any negative consequences from doing this?
Many thanks in advance for sharing any experiences/advice xx
Hello Leanne,
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Just wanted to send you best wishes and hope you are recovering well from your surgery. Sorry I can not offer you any direct experience. The best people to talk to would be your treatment team. I am unsure if you have received the contradictory advice from different people involved in your care or from other sources. Guidance may vary depending upon different treatments and cancer types. You may want to also ask your question in the nurses section. If it is of any use, please see the link below to information about the subject on the Breast Cancer Care site.
