Tamoxifen and thickened lining of the womb

I have been on tamoxifen for 6 months and on the 4th February I’m having a hysteroscopy. I had my pre op yesterday and the nurse said that while I’m asleep they may do a DnC. To be honest Id rather have a full hysterectomy and be done. If I’ve got to stay on the medication for 5 years possibly longer , wouldn’t it be better for everyone to go down the root of “prevention is better than cure”! I hope there’s someone out there that can give me their opinion ,so I can except whats going on. Take care everyone x x

I’ve been on Tamox since last August. I know the potential for it to cause thickening, and cancer in the ovaries. I agree with the “prevention is better than cure” so I am having an oophorectomy in Feb. That’s my opinion as to whats best for me. Only you can decide for you. Hysterectomy and oophs carry their own set of risks - like osteoporosis for one.

Here’s my reasoning: I am premenopausal and my cancer was highly ER+. Getting rid of my oestrogen producing ovaries is a good thing in my situation. Tamox can better protect my bones if I am post menopause, at the moment it is not. It will reduce my risk of ovarian cancer (because they won’t be there to get cancer!). The down side is more surgery, instant menopause.

It’s the weighing up that’s always the hardest! Good luck with your decision.

Sending you hugs:)
