Hello Ladies, I have a question which I thought you may be able to help or express an opinion on. I am waiting for results following WLE and SNB. It has been suggested that I will undergo radiotherapy and have Tamoxifen. Outcome of results on 2nd August.
I have read articules that suggest there are interations between Tamoxifen and Warfarin, and Tamoxifen should not be prescribed if you are on Warfarin. I am on Warfarin for severe recurrent Pulmonary Embolis. The hospital are aware of this but still suggest I will be given Tomoxifen.
Has any one any knowledge around this I would apprechiate your comments.
Hi Meconopsis, googling interactions between tamoxifen and warfarin suggests that the tamoxifen enhances the effect of the warfarin and that some doctors seem to reduce the dosage of warfarin by 30/50%. I’d have a chat with your doctor or the pharmacist - they’re the ones trained re drug interactions. Perhaps there might be something you could take instead of the warfarin that wouldn’t interfere with the tamoxifen, or perhaps vice versa? Either way it does need further investigation and consideration, sorry I couldn’t be more help, best wishes Pat x
Thank you Trisha_51 your right I’m going to have to get a good understanding of what they are going to prescribe as I would, not be happy for warfarin to be reduced just stopping it for surgery and restarting it has caused me breathlessness and chest felt tight.
Hi, I was on Warfarin for 6 months due to clot to lung. I started Tamoxifen at the same time and was monitored very closely with the Warfarin dose being adjusted when needed. I didn’t have any problems from taking the two together.
