Am just wondering if there is anyone who has NOT had hot flushes while taking Tamoxifen or Arimidex? I had horrendous flushes on Tamoxifen and am now getting much milder ones on Arimidex.
Hi
I had hot flushes with Tamoxifen at first but have found that they are now less often and also more bareable too. Perhaps this will happen with your Arimidex. lets hope so.

Hi Olivia i have only been taking tamoxifen for two weeks, and the hot flushes and lack of sleep are awful, does it get any better? and how long where you on tamoxifen for, and did it put you through the change proper?

Hi Alison - I was on Tamoxifen 17 years ago and managed it for 3.5 years. I was perimenopausal when I started it and I think this made the flushes worse - menopause plus side effects of Tamoxifen. I tried everything and the only thing that helped me was recommended by my husband who is a GP - Pro-Banthine - check it out on Google. It is for excessive sweating and for me it worked very well. The only side effect was a dry mouth for which chewing gum helped. You have to get a prescription for it. I used to sleep on a towel but still woke up. I think you just get used to it. My BC came back in the same breast in April and I am now on Arimidex which still gives me flushes but only 10 a day and not so strong as before.
Hi all,
Heres my tuppence worth…only had one week of Arimidex and perhaps had 3 mild flushes at night. (Perhaps too much bedding for late July?)
However I did not get much in the way of hot flushes during the menopause so that could be a factor.
I believe it is related to body mass…big ladies do not get as many as petite ladies. I suppose there are some compensations for being size 20!

My BCN told me that tamoxifen mimics your natural menopause, if you are already through the change. Since my menopause was virtually symptom-free (yes, I know I’m lucky), then tamoxifen won’t make any difference other than to keep the bl**dy thing away - I hope!
