Tamoxifen... increases fertility.

Ladies,
Just wanted to put this out there in case anyone didn’t know that Tamoxifen increases fertility (and is actually used by fertility doctors/clinics)
I finished chemo at end of September, started tamoxifen whilst having rads… had mirena coil removed in October as was ER / PR 8/8. Periods returned November, December, January.
Thought that a combination of chemo and tamoxifen would reduce or stop fertility - I was wrong. March tested positive for pregnancy (miscarriage at the 12 week mark in April)
Just wanted to wave a flag to warn others…

Marguerite, I am very sorry for your loss, miscarriage is such a heartbreaking event! Met a lady last year at a BCC YWF Day who got pregnant whilst taking tamoxifen, so it does happen. Take care & recover.xxxx

Really sorry Marguerite. Am not on tamoxifen, but have friends who are, so I shall give them the info. Thank you.

Aw margeurite, what a scary and sad time you’ve had this year. Thanks for being so open and letting people know about this as i, for one, have never been told that tamoxifen increases fertility. The lack of info csn be so frustrating. I hope you have some support to help you through this.

Thinking of you- sorry for your loss.
Thanks for sharing your experience X

Marguerite, so sorry for your loss.

I was told that tamoxifen stops periods but doesnt stop fertility so had a normal coil put in when the Mirena had to go but thanks for flagging this as not all oncs seem to mention it.

Marguerite, I am really sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing the information about tamoxifen.

Hi,
so sorry to hear that you have another thing to deal with Margeurite. I had wondered why you had been a little quiet and had hoped you were getting back to normal. The onc told me that you can get pregnant on tam without having periods as it gives 'silent ones’even after years and scared me.
Thinking of you, hugs

Thank you all for your kind wishes, if only one lady takes precautions because of the post it will be worth putting my own ignorance / stupidity out there.

Marguerite
Of course it wasn’t your ignorance or stupidity, it was lack of very important information, information that you should have received. Thanks for warning others and so sorry to hear what you had to go through.
Sarah

I think Sarah is making a very valid point here, Marguerite.
Don’t be too hard on yourself.
You weren’t stupid or ignorant!
Do hope you’re pulling through and enjoying some space over this Easter break.

Lots of love Wx

Margeurite, i’m just jealous of you and your active sex life…

Hi Marguerite

Sorry to hear of your loss, not nice at all , sending you some virtual hugs…xxx

Thanks for the warning, i was told by oncology, that if i wanted to try and get pregnant, then tamoxifin was to be stopped sometime before trying, as it is harmful to the foetus…

xxxx

Many thanks again, feeling much better and meeting with my Onc next week…
