Tamoxifen muscle aching

Hi, I started tamoxifen a week ago and my legs have been really aching over the last couple days is this a side effect of taking tamoxifen ?? Also trying to stop myself imagining this aching is cancer returning

Hello lizn2,

Thanks for posting.

Tamoxifen can cause a range of different side effects including joint pain and fatigue. You may wish to post in this section of the forum to read about others experience. Often side effects will settle down after a while. Some women find the time of day they take their hormone therapy, or the brand they take can make a difference but if not or you experience any other side effects you can contact your treatment team for guidance.

Its understandable you are imagining these symptoms could be the cancer returning. Nearly everyone who has been treated for cancer worries about it coming back (recurrence) and you’re not alone in being anxious about this. The uncertainty and fear of breast cancer returning is very real. At first, every ache or pain may frighten you, but most people find the anxiety lessens as the time goes on.

Adapting to life after treatment can be difficult and often the need for information and support continues.
