Tamoxifen - same time of day

Hi. I have been taking tamoxifen for three years. I take it at night. I set an alarm for 9pm but sometimes I don’t take it until 10pm or 11pm - it’s basically before I go to bed.

I suddenly started worrying that it says I should take it at the exact time each day - and I wonder how strict I should be about that?

Hi Flip79

Thanks for posting.

It is recommended that you take your tamoxifen at the same time every day so the amount of drug in your system remains somewhat even. This is to maintain its effect and also to reduce side effects.

However, tamoxifen remains in your system for some time. So if you are a few hours late or even if you forget a dose you do not need to take an extra tablet, or be concerned that it will stop having an effect.
