Tamoxifen swallowing problems?

Hi there. I have been taking tamoxifen since November and had RT in late Jan /early Feb. For the past couple of weeks I have had a sensation like my tamoxifen tablet getting ‘stuck’. It seems to have got worse and now feeling it at other times too. It feels like the lower part of my oesophagus rather than in my throat. Had anyone else had this? Is it a RT or tamoxifen side effect? Many thanks

I also have problems swallowing Tamoxifen. I try several times before it eventually goes down and sometimes feels like it has not gone completely down. I worry about choking and that makes be anxious which doesn’t help. I have just been on it for 40 days so far and wonder if different brands are different shapes and textures as that might help.

Hi blue80

Thank you for posting.

Its natural to wonder what may be causing the sensation you describe but we are unable to say if is a side effect of the tamoxifen or your radiotherapy. It sounds as though @deegee has had a similar experience which has understandably caused anxiety.

The feeling of something in your throat or oesophagus can be caused by many things but we would suggest that you speak to your treatment team to check this out. If they feel it’s related to taking the tamoxifen tablet, they may consider prescribing a liquid form of tamoxifen to see the symptoms settle.

If you would like to connect with others on the forum who are taking tamoxifen, you may want to post a question here.
