Tamoxifen Withdrawal

Hi everyone

I had a telephone appointment with Oncology just before Christmas.  I completed my 5 years in remission and was so pleased when they said I was being discharged and no longer had to take Tamoxifen.  I asked the question “Do I have to come off it gradually?” And the answer was “no, just stop taking them”.

Three weeks later led me to finding this forum.  I am so tired, I can’t think straight, my body is aching and I’m feeling quite low and from what I’ve read it could get a lot worse. I can’t believe after reading all the posts from everyone suffering from the same thing that this is still happening.

I still have some tablets so I’m going to take them again and try and come off it gradually.

So I have a couple of questions.  If you have come off Tamoxifen gradually did that work for you? And how do we make Doctors, Consultants and other medical professionals aware of this problem so it stops happening.

Hi Andrea49,

Thank you for posting Sorry to read about the nasty side effects of tamoxifen withdrawal that you’re experiencing.

While you wait for a response to your questions, you may find it useful to speak with our specialist nurses. You can either give them a call on 0808 800 6000 or post your question to the Ask Our Nurses board, where they can reply directly to you.

I hope this helps. Best wishes,

Saskia
