Tamoxifen

hi all

this isnt the usual question about the dreaded Tamoxifen.

Ok, usually positive but getting a little worked up here. Had huge lump in left breast last year, had chemo, op then rads and now having Herceptin and on Tamoxifen, my periods have stopped but do you know if i would still sometimes get the dreaded signs of a period, e.g. bloated tummy, teary, sort of lumpy boobs, I keep thinking that i can feel something in my good boob and getting worked up and have booked to see my consultant on friday to put my mind at rest, its just with the bloated tummy and me feeling a little down that im wondering if I could still have those effects of a period without me having one. hope it makes sense.

thanks all

Tracey

Interesting my onc had done some blood tests and im still pre menopausal and i can expect my periods back, booo, which being on Tamoxifen i didnt think they would come back till i had finished my 5 year course.

(I feel as though im talking to myself here)

hi tracy,
iv only started tamoxifin, but my onc said that periods would return once tamoxin stops, hence in my case they wont return as i had hysterectomy…
and you are right to see your consultant about your other boob

hopefully its nothing serious

best of luck

hiya Breda

thought i was on my own on this forum, tee hee.

I was under the impression that they could start again any time, I always seem to miss the point when i see my onc.
my other boob is fine, it was just tissue that was feeling lumpy on the bone, i was so relieved and to make me feel better im having a MRI scan in the next couple of weeks that will scan both boobs and lymph nodes so im quite pleased.

thanks for replying

Hello all - New to this forum. I’m due to start the dreaded Tamox this week and am not really looking forward to it after reading some of the posts on the bcpals site. I had a very level headed lady pm me to tell me basically not to take in all I read and that everyone reacts differently. Common sense really. I’m 46 and was still having regular periods up until chemo No 3 - my onc told me that they probably will come back with the Tamox, again everyone is different she says. Oh well, just have to wait and see I suppose.

I am four years into my 5 year course of Tamoxifen. My periods are very irregular, the last two where six months apart. I know what you mean though, I have the moody feelings and feel very emotional when I think I would be having a period.

Everyone seems to react differently to Tamoxifen, I have the irregular periods but no hot flushes/menapausel symptoms.

I am hoping to try for a family when all this is over.

I started tamoxifen in march and things haven’t been too bad. I do have hot flushes but fortunately not too many. I am also having very regular and very heavy periods and the bloatedness and aches and pains that comes with it. The onc said some peoples stop and others don’t - mine seem to have got worse but I can cope with it. I have also put weight on but don’t know if this is the tamoxifen or if I am comfort eating (and drinking!!)
Take care everyone
