hi ladies. I am due to have tattoos done on 26 April, following my bilateral mastectomy last May. I have had silcone implants both sides and had my nipples reconstructed 6 weeks ago (which went really well). Has anyone had the tattoos done and if so, how was it? Was it sore afterwards and does wearing a bra irritate them at all? Someone I work with said I may have to leave them uncovered for a day or so to aid healing. As I have never even had a regular tattoo, I am not sure how it will feel or how it will heal etc. Can anyone help at all?
many thanks
Theresa
Hi there Smurfey, I had tattooing on re con nipple, and it no problem. Doesnt hurt at all, but you do have to go back quite a few time so they get it right, the right colour etc. It does fade a bit but you can go back i believe and get it coloured up again. I didnt bother though. You will be fine. I remember i was given some sort of vaseline which you rub in but you can wear your bra straight away! Good Luck hope you are happy with your new nipples! hi Debs, thanks for posting. I’m not too worried about the pain side of it, but more worried about the healing side of it, so it’s good to know yours was problem free! i’ve read different articles on the internet, but it’s good to hear from someone that’s actually been and had it done. I’ll let you know how it goes. I’m going to the Royal Free, where was yours done if you don’t mind me asking?
thanks, theresa
Hi Theresa, I had mine done at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford. The girl who done it was so lovely, she actually ended up doing my eyebrows as well, but this was in her home, by that time she had taken up a course in semi permanent make-up. I’ve just remembered something I remember the first time I went there the medical photographer took a before and after picture of the boobs, I must admit this did feel strange but hey its all good stuff and good for the journals…hope they weren’t published anywhere else! Good Luck, let me know how you get on.

I’ve been researching breast reconstruction and my surgeon sent one of his patients to see me, she’d had her nipple tatooed, and it looked simply fantastic…I’ll definitely get mine done post reconstruction, and apparently it doesn’t hurt too much.
Hope the tatoo went well…no pain I guess. I am in the process of having mine done. First appointment completed . I was really pleased and surprised how it took your eyes away from other scars. Keep going it will be worth it.
All the best
Hi Ladies,
Wonder if you can help,a friend who isn’t on this forum, has just had her nipple tattoo done and is worried about how dark it is.She wanted me to ask if it fades when she starts washing it?
I had a lumpectomy so can’t help her but I know you ladies are great at sharing your experiences.
Many thanks,
Love Little H x
Bumping this up.

anyone???
Hi Little H,
I am about to have my nipple tattoo next week. My understanding is that I may need two sessions to make it dark enough and I have heard from other ladies that it does fade over time so that sometimes you want to have it re-done. I would have thought your friend’s tattoo will fade, but I don’t know how long it will take. I will ask at my appointment next week and post back here anyway. x
Thanks Lola, I’ll pass your comments on to my friend.Hope you get on ok next week, I’ll keep an eye out for any more posts.
Good Luck!
Little H xx
hi all, the tattoo went well and wasn’t painful, just very slightly sore afterwards. The nurse who did it explained I may have to have up to 3 or 4 visits to get the colour right. She said medical tattoos are semi-permenant, hence the possible need for several visits, and they do fade.
It is now 2 weeks since the first application and the colour is very pale, which apparently is normal. I go back in August for the second colouring. I agree with yoda, it does detract from the other scars and it makes it look far more normal.
I think it’s great that all of us can come on here and share all our different experiences and ask questions!
Thanks for all your posts, and apologies for not coming back on sooner to tell you how it went Theresa.x
Hi,
Have just posted about my nipple tattoo in another thread - Nipple recon - if anyone wants to read it. x
