Hi everyone,i have had an ld flap just over ayear ago now,my new breast is ‘ok’. What i would really like to do is have a proffesional tattoo done by a tattoo artist to cover the whole breast and of course the scar. I did see a beautiful example of this some time ago on this website,but cannot find it now.Does anyone out there know anything about this or had this done? xx

I have also been considering this but dont know if I’d have the nerve to go for it!
Also Ive had radiotherapy so dont know if it would be a good idea.
I too remember seeing a link on here but cant remember where.

Hi Janey, i would love to do it,although i should probably check with the doc first as i have had all my lynph nodes cleared on that side.Wish i could find that link :frowning: xx

However using the search facility to track old threads kind of is something I do! Brilliant idea, some of us have had our nipples tattooed, so surely you can have a larger one, perhaps avoiding going to far into the armpit.

I have also had an LD flap recon in August 2010. I haven’t had my actual recon tattooed but I decided to have my 11" scar on my back tattooed last October.It also coincided with my 40th Birthday. I absolutely love my tattoo and take every opportunity to show it off! I agree with getting it checked with your breast team first, as I did, but also if you decide to go ahead make sure you research the artist as tattooing over scar tissue is hard to do.

There is a beautiful book on reconstruction called The Boudica Within by Elaine Sassoon, which details many ladies experiences of reconstruction of different types. One of the ladies in there (who had a recon 27 years after her mx) had a lovely full breast tattoo

As the other ladies have said though, check what is ok for you with your consultants etc and make sure you get a tattooist with experience in this type
