Hi is anybody receiving taxotere (decotaxel) alone without the FEC? I will be receiving 4 cycles 3 weekly. I was originally going to have FEC but with the heart scan results being just below what they like it to be they changed it to Taxotere and starting Herceptin with the second cycle. I am 62. I had a grade 2 lump 18mm hormone - HER+. No lymph nodes involved, with vascular invasion. I am very worried that this treatment won’t be as effective as the FEC and everybody else seems to be having more ? Thank you for any replies x (I posted on monthly chemotherapy thread I think may be better here?)
hi febstarter I can understand your worry in that you are ‘missing out’ with FEC but i think you have to trust your team and they obviously have enough information to make the decision and give you targeted treatment. Taxotere is really strong stuff and most people only have 3 cycles of it and you are actually having 4. when agreeing a treatment plan they look at the indivudal as a ‘whole’ and if there are worries with your heart then they are right to change the treatment. They are there to help you survive this horrid disease and there’s no point giving you something that could do damage to your heart. As I said Tax is hard and you won’t think others are having ‘more’ when you start it. You could ring the BCC helpline and speak to one of the clinical nurses who will be able to explain a lot better than me and I am sure help you with your fears. Good luck with your treatment xx
Thank you Saffronseed, im worrying about everything I suppose! I didn’t think of ringing the BCC helpline I think I will do that tomorrow , thank you! xx
