TC Chemo

Hi. I am due to start 4 cycles of TC along with herceptin next Tuesday - has anyone else had this treatment plan??

Hello,

Yes me! I am starting this week but having 6 not 4. I am starting with a loading dose of Herceptin on Thursday then the TC on Friday. After that they can all be given on the same day.

I’m having my herceptin the day after chemo. It’s all a bit of the unknown isn’t it xx

Just completed 4 cycles of TC but no herceptin for me. Main side effects for me were hot flushes ( try a soy based menopause support such as Vogel check with doc first, mine ok with this). Stomache churning built as went along, but not quite diahorrea. Kept hair (thanks Paxman), tired a lot but sleep when you can day or night, you will be up peering out all the saline drip (at first) at night anyway!  Sleep helps pass time and makes me feel better sooner. Worst symptom is worrying about symptoms! I had reflexology/reiki every week - an hour of relaxation and bliss - so helpful. Company of friends and family on good days were fine. Got very hungry on second week, decided was blood cells needing fuel so went for protein and veg. Less hungry other weeks, so never put weight on. Muscles will need some exercise soon though! Piles can be a problem on day 2 or 3 don’t be afraid of a dulcolax suppository to get you through that day! Diarolyte sachets useful in case of  ‘loose’ bowel days! You keep your nails on this regimen. I also kept eyelashes and passable eyebrows. Still have to recover from cycle 4 now. Fleeting dizziness when rising from sitting position - doc says haemolglobin, so taking Floradix to maintain iron levels. Easy to take and I had good blood results.

Hi blueash - I have no idea why we are having different when most seem to be on the other regime it’s strange isn’t it x

Hi karapace thank you so much for responding - you are the first person to have gone through the same chemo that I’ve heard of. What is Paxman? Sorry all this is still new to me. Glad to hear about the nails I just assumed they would look awful! I was going to ask about reflexology as my brother in law can do this for me. Thanks again for your advice - I will be glad once the first one is done xx

I’m not on any tablets at all for anything. I am on the August thread IThink xx

Hi

Yes had first round of TC on Tuesday, now feeling utterly exhausted! Does this subside at all? Feeling like there’s a large mountain to climb.

Sue x

Hi Sue we had our first one on the same day. My problem has been bone ache from the filgrastim injection, started Wednesday evening and still have it! Tonight my scalp has started tingling so keeping an eye on that. Hope you are feeling better soon xx

Hi Sue glad to hear you are feeling much better, I went back to work today, only for a few hours but it felt good. Hopefully we will both be ok until No. 2 xx

Well done you x Have taken some time out from work personally as unsure of how reliable I could be.
You kind of have to force yourself to get on with things don’t you think? It would be so easy just to sit on the sofa all day, but you feel so much better if you can get on and achieve the smallest of tasks. Take care. X

Hi seaview69

Had my second cycle today. How about you?

Was definitely feeling more anxious this time as now know the process! Had a reaction again to the chemo, so had extra steroids to counteract it, which makes you feel quite sleepy at the time and feeling tired now.

Sue x

Hi Sue, I had my second cycle on Tuesday and the insomnia I have had from the steroids has been awful. Last time the hurting bones were a problem and the Thursday was when that kicked in. I’m not sure if it’s the restless legs from the steroids or the achy bones I have at the moment lol. All in all cycle one wasn’t too bad (one short A&E trip but for very low temp rather than high but thankfully all was ok). I do hope that you are ok this time. I shaved my head and now in scarves which I find absolutely fine and don’t wear them in the house. What did you find the worst SE from cycle 1 xxx

Hi seaview69

How are you doing? Have you had 3rd cycle yet? Mine will be tomorrow as the consultants are on holiday and wasn’t able to go for check up til yesterday!

My side effects include pins and needles in feet, swollen finger nails and possible bladder infection, but none of this seem to worry the consultant!

so as long as bloods are ok then will be having no. 3 Thursday.

Take care x

Hi Sue, I’m on Day 5 of my third chemo - day 3 and 4 weren’t great but today not feeling as bad. No energy really but that’s a small issue and I am just resting as and when I need to. I hope it all went well on Thursday and you are feeling ok? I can’t believe that I only have one more chemo left - time has gone really quickly I think. To all you ladies just starting out on the TC H regime you will get through it, stay positive and be kind to yourself. Accept help if it’s offered and if it isn’t then make sure you ask. Sending lots of love and hugs to you all xxx

Hi Sue I suffered with nausea this time too which was something I hadn’t really on the other two. Looking back it has gone quite quickly. Yes I’m having 4 weeks of rads what about you? Rest up today xxx

Hey Sue I had last chemo on Tuesday and yesterday spent the whole day in bed and can see the same today feeling very tough, I’m guessing it’s probably a cumulative effect. I see my oncologist on 4th Nov and he will prescribe initial tamoxifen and then 4 weeks of rads start on 8th Nov. Hope the side effects are good to you for the last one - I know it passes but just rubbish waiting for it to isn’t it xxxx

Hey Sue I had my planning scan for rads last Friday and they gave me my very first tattoo ha ha (just three small dots) - just looking forward to 5th December for the last one lol. My main aim is Christmas as I will be away to see my daughter who will be working in Austria xxx
