Tender breast, with lump and grew in size?

Hi all, new to this.
First off, I found a lump back in February/March, and after weeks of putting the doctors off I finally went. I was referred to the hospital in April. When I got to the hospital, I seen a doctor who examined me and felt the lump. He said it could be a cyst and may need lancing. I went in another room for my US, and immediately I was told its a fibroadenoma. I thought it was strange how she knew straight away but I thought they must know what they are on about. I was sent away with a leaflet informing me about fibroadenomas with no need for a follow up.
However, for the past 3 weeks I have had a sore breast, starting from when my period finished which isn’t normal for me I usually get tender breasts in the run up to my next period and once it comes the tenderness goes. It’s hurting when I’m washing it in the bath. Also I noticed my nipple is different on that breast and also that breast has grew in size, to the point of it seems to be bulging out of my bra. There seems to be a lot more tissue In that breast and the lump is still there. I came on this website and found lots of people who have been diagnosed with a fibroadenoma then when they had it taken out, it was stage 3 cancer. So I made another appointment with the doctor and told him about the changes and after he examined me he went on the report the hospital sent in April, and it was 1cm, he said it has gone a little bit bigger now. I’m only 18 and “it’s rare” to have breast cancer but you hear so many stories now, I have been referred to the hospital again and the letter came yesterday and it says “urgent breast care” and this has worried me a little bit. I have my appointment a week Wednesday. Someone please advise me on this. Thank you

Amy, you’ve done the right thing coming on here and chasing your doctor. I’m sorry that the waiting and unknown is the worst part. I hope you get some answers soon and any treatment/ reassurance you need x

Hi riversidedawn and Kess.
I had my appointment on Wednesday, and was seen to firstly by a doctor. He sort of made me feel as though I was being pathetic coming back because he more or less said “you was here in April and we diagnosed you with a fibroadenoma why are you back” I told him about the changes to my left breast; grew in size, painful, nipple become flat and inverted. He had a feel around and said there seems to be no change in the lump and put it all down to my hormones because I’m young and that i can get surgery if my nipple becomes a problem cosmetically which I explained the look of it isn’t an issue to me it’s the fact it’s suddenly change which in my eyes isn’t normal. He said if they were to take the lump out I would still have the pain. He wasn’t going to send me for the scan but I insisted for peace of mind. I went into the scan and the man looked asthough he had concern on his face and took picture of the scan 3 times (I don’t know if it was 3 different masses he found or the same one) and it measured 1.4cm. After the scan he said its a fibroadenoma and it has only grew 0.1cm but another doctor could come in and measure it at 1.5cm. I was a bit confused about this considering my doctor said it was only 1cm in April yet the hospital said it was 1.3? And he said I don’t need a follow up again and I was discharged. I still have no peace of mind because none of my questions were answered how I expected, I feel as though I’m being brushed off and not taken seriously because of my age because the doctor made a point of saying its 1 in 36,000 women under 20 get breast cancer. I know it could be nothing but after reading some of the stories on here one woman said she was diagnosed with a fibroadenoma for 5 years before she was taken seriously! I just don’t want to get too far down the line where it becomes a problem :frowning:
