tender scalp, anything nice to use once its shaved??

HI everyone, I am into my fec75 chemo, couldnt do the 2nd cycle as white bloods were too low. as in my subject i know there are been other posts on this but it takes so long to trawl through long posts. have lost most of my hair and will probably shave it. anyone used any nice oils etc that help with the tenderness. from looking on an american blog does it go away once all of it has fallen out? i imagine my scalp will look very white, again is there anything that soothes the head?
am loving the morfs that some of you recommended back in october, sept when we were starting our treatment, ebay has some great bargains and they are really soft to wear.
love to all, hope its going okay.

Hi Anne,

I am two years down the line but still recall how sore my scalp was when the hair was falling out, and how relieved I was to have the last of it shaved off. Chemo is very drying to all skin, wherever it is on our bodies, so you will need to look after your scalp. My hairdresser advised me to use a gentle shampoo to wash it (Simple or other pH balanced product) and to moisturise daily with a gentle moisturiser. Because I have senstive skin I used boring old E45 scalp to sole (top to toe) daily, but if you have a favourite unscneted or only lightly scented product, it should be OK. The trick is not to use new things as it can be hard for medics to tell what causes any rashes that arise. I found I got quite a lot of acne on my scalp after my hair went (and on my face) due to the FEC, but it soon cleared up.

Keeping hydrated is really important too - a lot of people find fizzy water more palatable than still, especailly if feeling a bit nauseous.

Hope you find some rleeif soon, and all goes well with the rest of your chemo.

Hi, I used Liz Earle, "naturally active"products all through chemo.I used the cleanse and polish on my face and it was blemish free throughout and never looked better. I used the shampoo every morning, just a tiny bit, (you don’t need to use much anyway) and massaged my scalp and neck with it. I didn’t have any problems with soreness, dryness or cradle cap. I still use all the products as they are totally natural and smell fantastic. They are a bit pricey, the shampoo costs over £8, but a little really does go a long way. You can buy them on the internet, qvc and john lewis and I highly recommend them. I finished chemo May 9th and my hair is back, an inch and a half all over my head, and is lovely and soft and in great condition.

Hiya,
i used baby bottom butter by waitrose. Not expensive at all and it was a really rich texture. oh and I use Ren products too. Loved the rose oil for the bath.

Hi, I found my scalp hurt most while I had hair which was making a bid for freedom; once it was all shaved off I felt a lot more comfortable. xx

Hi Anne, when I was in hospital having my lumpectomy in April 2010,I got talking to a lovely lady in the next bed who was recommended by her sister (who was a nurse at the hospital we were in) to rub a little Almond Oil into the scalp 3-4 times a day to help moisturise the skin and help keep your natural hair colour. I did this every day until my hair started to sprout again. Whether it was the oil or not I don’t know, but my hair has returned to near enough the same colour it was before it fell out and is in a soft, silky condition.Hope this helps

Thank you revcat, hotmomma, raechi, hero67. all of that is useful, i didnt even think of keeping washing my hair/head with some shampoo, i like liz earle too and you can pick up some sizes on ebay at a good price. hotmomma, i like the fact that the colour may stay the same, i dont fancy it coming back all grey.
i like using oils etc and have some almond or jojoba. i also read its worth adding couple of drops of teatree, lavender or cedarwood for sensitivity so that may be useful to someone else.
i was ready to shave it off, but cant quite lose the last bits yet, i can still see a few bits of my fringe under a hat, so for now its stays.
thanks everyone. amd xxx
