Hi everyone,
Ive been talking virtually to some ladies in the states about our chemo. I was horrified to hear that the chemo I’m on (Enhertu) costs them 2,500 per infusion! And even using the cold cap costs them 400 every time. Some of them can’t afford it and so use ice packs on their head held on with a woolly hat in the hope of saving their hair.
I’m not naive about the cost of pharmaceuticals, but this has really made me pause and be so thankful that this is one (huge) thing we in the UK don’t have to worry about, on top of everything else. I think about the relatively piffling amounts the NHS has received from my taxes over the years, and here I am being given such excellent treatment for as long as I need it.
I know chemo can be horrible. Mine is at the moment too. And I don’t want to make a political point. But maybe you’d like to share with me in a moment of silent thanks for the NHS and our country’s values of looking after those in need.
All the very best to all of you going through treatment just now, keep going!
Jx
