I will be going to the Beatson hospital soon for chemo. Probably end of July, not got my dates yet. Im from North Ayrshire (Kilbirnie area).
Is anyone in the same boat as me. Would you like to meet up for some coffee and moral support? (I know I will need it).
HI woodlark.Good luck at Beatson for end of july,I had my rads there during February and March and found all staff very pleasant and it was amazing how quickly my sessions passed. When I first got my list of dates to attend I felt that the time would drag but was pleasantly surprised because they make you feel at ease and always willing to help with any concerns you have.Best of luck hope all goes well for you.Take care. Will be thinking about you.All the best Joyce.xx
Hi Woodlark
I had my radiotherapy at the Beatson this time last year. I was terrified of the machines at first but the staff and other patients that you wait with are so nice. We had a few hilarious moments in the waiting room. I drove myself in everyday from Alloa. Went to the Maggies centre a couple of times after my rads session but had to rush home as my son was at nursery. I managed to get a McMillan grant to help with travelling expenses and childcare. When your there speak to the breast care nurse about a grant for expenses seeing as you are coming from quite a distance.
Good luck and enjoy the Glasgow banter
Thank you Scobie and Lila07.
Im glad you had good experiences. Thats always good for starters.
I was only told on Monday that it was going to be Chemo. It was originally radiotherapy…but they have offered me chemo and Ive accepted, just want this damn thing away. Decided to throw whatever they have got at it.
Hope you are both well and happy

Hi Woodlark,
I am just coming to the end of my chemo treatment at the Beatson, my last is 28th July, then rads on Sept 1st…
I have had a very positive time there and apart from the clinics being really busy(which I suppose is to be expected)… I cannot complain one bit. The nurses are all lovely and very helpful. I did have to phone the ward for advice during the night (which they tell you to do because they are more knowledgable when it comes to chemo side effects) I had really bad stomach problems with first chemo and needed urgent advice, I got a very sleepy junior doctor who was unable to hold a proper conversation with me never mind help me with my stomach, her advice was if my stomach was that sore then I should be in A&E and there was nothing she could do…But anyway!! you take these things with a pinch of salt, my GP got me sorted when the surgery opened!! my GP has been fantastic with medication for side effects and I would phone them now as opposed to Beatson… But the chemo ward girls are very good…
Why don’t you pop onto the Glasgow/East Kilbride thread for a chat, the girls are nice on there to, we have met up for lunch and hopefully we’ll be planning another one soon…
All the best with you’re chemo, hope all goes smooth
Best wishes

Hi All
Had a weird experience recently. One of my friends was in the Beatson getting his bone marrow transplant for leukemia. I decided to visit him. It was really surreal walking through the Beatson and not being a patient. Did feel a bit teary as I was on my own but had to hide my feelings once I saw Paul as he was going through a really bad time. Did sit in the car park and had a good greet to myself afterwards but glad I did it.
Maggie - good luck with the chemo, keep smiling/laughing and try your hardest to stay positive as it makes a world of difference.

maybe it was just your deep down thoughts coming back to you about your time there. Sometimes tears are not a bad thing…Ive found after a tearful session I feel elated…euphoric almost
It’s our bodies way of dealing with stuff.
thank you for writing
hugs
Maggie
