The Big C May Have Returned!

I had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy in 2006.  The only way they detected it was through an MRI.  When they operated they found more than they thought.  After treatment was finished, I discharged myself from all follow up appointments because they informed me that I would have to have MRI scans all the time.  I am claustrophobic and would have dreaded these and the waiting for results and I just couldn’t face the thought of going through this for the rest of my life.

All was well until a few months ago when changes took place in the breast that was operated on.  It feels hard to the touch, has changed shaped and sometimes hurts but not really painful.  I have no family and I do not want to dump this on friends as it is not fair and they would worry.  I don’t actually know whether to go to my GP or not.  He will start the ball rolling but I don’t know if I can cope with it all again.  On the other had it may be nothing.  I am scared and don’t know what to do, with other stuff in life I make decisions all the time but this is different.  Any help or suggestions or encouragement welcome, thank you.

Hi Carooola, im sorry that you’re worrying, it’s only natural that we always thing the worst. Please visit your GP just to be on the safe side, it could be hormonal. I’ve found this site an excellent place to go onto for advice, it’s helped me through many dark days. The ladies on here are a fountain of knowledge and support, I’m sure they’ll be along shortly to support you. Sending big hugs. Tracy XXX

This is obviously really worrying you, so go and see your GP.  He may well be able to reassure you and then you can get back to normal life and stop worrying.

Someone on here said the MRI is like being zapped by daleks while you’re in a tin can.  That’s so true, I cried a bit while I was in there.

Go on, make that call.  Good luck & hugs.  Let us know how it goes.

Hi Carooola

I am sorry to read you’re having such a tough time at the moment.  As well as the support you are receiving here you might find it helpful to talk things through with a member of staff on the BCC helpline.  Here you can share your feelings and concerns with someone who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional suport and practical information.  The number to call is 0808 800 6000 and lines are open Monday to friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

my breast tissue changed recently too, I was 2007 dx. Turns out it was radiated tissue that had turned hard and wasn’t anything to do with BC. I would get it checked out and have your mind put at rest. Carrie
