THE DREADED WEIGHT GAIN
THE DREADED WEIGHT GAIN Having put on a good few stone since having treatment, I’m desperate to loose it! For the first time ever its not shifting by just cutting back, so I’m thinking of either joining weightwatchers or slimming world.
Just wondering if anyone else has used them and how well you rated them!
What about aerobics- bouncing around is good for lymph and sylphlike form. Recently read that dancing is splendid for keeping brain and memory sharp [as well as good for figure]. Ballroom dancing or Salsa, depending on age, are great options. Any of these should be loadsa fun too, best wishes, dilly
Hi - yes I’ve used Weight Watchers pre BC and it was marvellous - I managed to lost 1st 10lbs in about 3 months - great! Until I started on tamoxifen Nov 06 and have now put 1st back on. Like you cannot shift it - although I am enjoying my food, but when I do cut back and exercise the pounds just don’t budge! Not sure what to do at the moment, am hating my body, but can 't get into the right frame of mind for serious dieting. Best of luck with what you decide to do though, let us know how you get on.

Hi Tess
I have tried weight watchers in the past and so has my daughter I found them very good. I am not on any medication, I had mastecomy and DIEP recon for DCIS, because my hospital doesn’t prescribe tamoxifen for DCIS but I had 8 days in hospital for the recon and my osteopath told me that even just 2 -3 days of lying in bed you loose muscle tone. After the op I couldn’t loose the 1/2 stone I’d put on for it (they didn’t know if I had enough tummy). It suddenly occured to me that the possible loss of muscle tone through lying around and my age (51) maybe I should do something to build it up. Now I go 3 - 4 times a week to the gym and I’ve had no problem with weight loss. It’s a bit of an effort because the only exercise I normally do is yoga and I really have to organise my life to fit it in but it might be worth a try.

P.S. and if you knew me you’d know I hate any form of exercise so it really is an effort
not losing weight either Comforting to come across your post!! I am on Arimidex - have been for the last 5 months, and I am struggling to maintain my weight as it is! Can’t say I am being over indulgent - and I am now in at the gym at least three times a week. I lost weight with weight watchers a couple of years ago - and I am thinking of going back as I am quite sure there must be something I am doing wrong food wise!!
Let us know if you join how the results go.

Slimming World Hiya,
Ive done both. Did Weightwatchers, lost over a stone then fell pregnant. Went into labour a size 10 and came out a 10 but then put loads of weight on being at home all the time so went to Slimming World and lost just over a stone for my wedding renewal. Then diagnosed with BC so put weight on comfort eating so decided I didnt want to be fat as well so joined Slimming World again whilst on treatment - lost 16lb!
I have to say that i found Slimming World much easier not only do you not have to count points but you arent restricted as much in what you can and cant eat, hence going back to SW.
Good luck.

You can do it ! I gained two stone while undergoing Chemo and starting Tamoxifen. I found that Slimming World was the way for me to loose weight. I lost two stone in 5 months and have managed to keep it off (well a few pounds up and down don`t really count do they ?).
Good Luck,
Sozzie.

Its good to know that some of you have successfully fought the flab!!
I do find exercise hard mainly because I have either arthritis in my ankle or its joint pain relating to tamoxifen… my gp thinks its the former.
However I do walk, swim and aqua aerobics, in fact I’m in the pool so much that I resemble a prune!!
I think probably Slimming World will be better cos I’ve found one very close to home and I’m also not good at counting points! I need to have my implant replaced but my surgeon has said he won’t arramge it untill I have lost some weight, so thats an added incentive!
Good luck and hope SW does it for you, best wishes, dilly
oh the weigtht gain! dear all
I too have gained a lot of weight since i started tamoxifen last sept. i used to be a size 8 and now i am edging towards a size 14. i have a big belly and i seem to put all the weight around my middle. I feel really down about it sometimes am fedup of having to keep buying new clothes.
i eat healthy and yes do have cakes and biscuits sometimes. joined the gym recently but lack the motivation to go.
i am however quite active as do quite a bit of walking every day and walk up escalators on the tube. but i despair with this weight gain. i waiting for a referral at st. thomas’ hosp for help with this.
has anyone else had any other help from their GP or hospitals to help manage?
any suggestions?
