"The little things that make a BIG difference"

Just received my copy of this lovely new booklet, which was written by us and published by BCC for “Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day” last week. Thrilled to have my contribution included, and so grateful to see all the hints & tips helping us make sense of our lives with BC mets. Well done BCC for this! Marilyn xx

Hi. Mine is on the coffee table nd intetesting when people flick through! It is lovely. Well done bcc. Nice to have something to mark secondary day!!

Me too! I took a copy along to my oncologist yesterday, the whole medical team were really impressed. This morning I had a call from one of the research nurses asking where she could get a copy for one of her patients. Very pleased to have been involved in this and a big thank you to BCC for taking all of our ideas on board and producing a very attractive and useful booklet.

Sounds really useful for us secondary ladies - can anyone tell me how I can get hold of a copy,

Thanks,
Dugsy

I’d like to see one as well! Although I get regular newsletters from BCC I haven’t had this, I’m sure I should have requested it somewhere on the forum but can’t remember where. Please can you point me in the right direction BCC?
Thx Nicky

Thank you June

Tips can also be viewed online, see the link above.

I went to the book launch at Waterstone’s Piccadilly. A good experience… thank you again BCC.
(and Hetty Baynes read one of my tips  )

Hi all - just had a PM asking where to get a copy of this booklet, and thought I should put the info here - just click on www2.breastcancercare.org.uk/publications/secondary-breast-cancer/little-things-make-big-difference-sm35 and you can order a copy from BCC. Hope you enjoy it!

Yes, recently I wanted to post a link to the booklet, to forward it to a friend of a former colleague of my daughter’s who was recently dx with secondaries… and I had problems finding it on the secondary section of the main BCC site! It doesn’t seem to be on the “publications” pages either.

You’re right, MrsBlue, I don’t think it was on the “Secondaries” publication pages when it was first published, but is now, along with other titles of interest/use to us: www2.breastcancercare.org.uk/publications/secondary-breast-cancer

Thanks MrsBlue about posting the link to my comments about this book. I think it’s absolutely amazing the comments are so true and every page has such a strong meaning. I wish my fiancé’s family could read it and certain friends maybe I’ll leave it in a place where they can read :o)

You ladies are an inspiration and I’d be lost without being able to come to the forum.

Love to all x x x

I’d like to see a post on this thread from someone in the Secondaries department of BCC

How is the book distribution going, from BCC’s viewpoint?

Any specific follow-up events planned?

And… what can we patients, and our BCNs, oncs and others who support us, do to help get secondary bc on the UK map?

Thank you to everyone for the feedback about secondary breast cancer awareness day and ‘The little things that make a big difference’. We’ve had a really positive response to the book. We’re still receiving orders and so far have distributed more than 2,000 copies to people affected by secondary breast cancer and healthcare professionals. Please keep on spreading the word and order additional copies if you know people who may be interested. We’ve also produced a bookmark to help promote the book. (If you’d like some of these please email <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%63%6c%61%72%65%2e%6b%65%6d%73%6c%65%79%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%63%6c%61%72%65%2e%6b%65%6d%73%6c%65%79%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>)

We’ve also had a great response from the media, with a significant amount of coverage on secondary breast cancer towards the end of last year.

As a result of our campaigning activities we’re excited to have secured meetings with several MPs in the coming months to talk more about the needs of people with secondary breast cancer. In England, we’re continuing to ask all Cancer Networks to sign up to the standards of care. Please encourage your Cancer Network to sign up - find out more here. And in Scotland, we’re delighted most MSPs have supported Linda Fabiani MSP’s Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day motion which supports the call to collect data on the number of people diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Ask your MSP to support the motion here if they haven’t already done so.

Finally, we’re currently evaluating the last year’s activities so we can start planning for this year’s awareness day. Please help us do this by completing the short online survey. It would be great to hear what you think.

Many thanks to everyone who got involved with the awareness day - your involvement is crucial to its success.
