The role of culture in psychological interventions for cancer patients

What is the project about?

SURECAN – Survivors’ Rehabilitation Evaluation after Cancer – is a study by Queen Mary University of London and King’s College London. We are developing and testing a new talking therapy for people who have finished treatment for cancer, but have poor quality of life.

We don’t want to design a therapy that is suitable only for some groups in the society. We did some research in order to better understand the role of culture in psychological interventions. We are looking for people who would be happy to attend an online meeting on the 3rd of June. We would like your views on our findings – how important they seem and how similar or different they are compared to your experiences.

This will help us understand our findings better and use them more effectively in the next phases of our research.

Who’s organising it?

Dr Ellie Moschopoulou and Dr Sheila Donovan

What’s the criteria for taking part?

Are you a cancer patient or a carer? Are you from an ethnic minority background and want to ensure these groups voices and preferences are heard when it comes to cancer aftercare? Then we would love to hear from you.

What do I need to do?

If you are interested in taking part, please contact the SURECAN team at surecan.study@qmul.ac.uk or 020 7882 2494

The online meeting will take place on Thursday 3rd June at 3pm and it will last between 1 and 1.5 hours. As a token of our appreciation for your time and contribution to the study, we will offer you a Love2shop high-street voucher.

For practical reasons we have to limit the size of the online meeting to 6 people. This will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. However, if there are many expressions of interest we will try to repeat the exercise and have a second meeting.
