The wait is killing

I have just been diagnosed of Breast Cancer - IDC, Grade 2, ER8, PR4 Her2 -ive, FNA left axilla - LC5.

The wait in getting the above histology was/is ‘killing’. Biopsy done in July and the result was given exactly a month after. Repeat biopsies, CT, and MRI have been done with no results or treatment plan yet. However, a bone scan has been scheduled for next week.

I really hope these tests are done ASAP and treatment plan starts in earnest. The ANXIETY is draining!!!

Yes, it’s a relief when you have a plan, keep strong, you can get through it. I was lucky, I live in France and treatment is very quick, less than a month between first mammogram and first chemo…2 years on still on treatment but still positive. Xx

Hi

I live in France as well, Bretagne actually. We’ve just been through a stressful move from the SW and just when I thought. Right now time to enjoy I located my 8mm lump.

I managed to get a mammogram without a prescription and this led the local over subscribed Dr to take me and my husband on.

I’m HER2 triple positive.

Where are you and what is your experience so far if you don’t mind me asking. Jax

As we are in meneac (Morbihan) I’m under the care of Dr Dugast at CHP St-Grégoire at Rennes. It’s an hours drive there but it has a great reputation.

Although we’ve lived in France for 7 years (as said before SW near Limoges) my french speaking and understanding plummets when in scary medical settings, therefore the Dr and Anaesthetist speak great English which is really lucky.

I’m at the beginning of my journey.

Sounds like you’ve been through a lot. I do hope things are going in the right direction for you. Jax x

Hi

Sorry to hear that you’ve had to wait so long. I totally understand this.

It’s so weird that the days are so long as you wait but that you are also dreading what you are waiting for :face_exhaling:

Pretty much everyone I have spoken to who has been on this journey has said the same thing “the waiting’s the worst”.

I’ve indulged myself with reading always been a good distraction for me.

Can your GP help with the anxiety? I have been given diazepam to take the edge off.

Lorient hospital have been amazing and have a wonderful oncologist, Rennes has a good reputation, you will be ok!

Hi bebecat and Jax! Just amazed that we all find ourselves on here and are being treated in France. Seems like we have no forums for breast cancer lol. I’m currently being treated in Lyon. Hoping to move to Loire Atlantic in the coming months. Hang in there folks because the ride might last longer than we anticipated.

Hi Shamrock

Welcome the BC in France

What is your story? I had my lumpectomy last Wednesday and 2 lymph nodes removed. Not one to sit around, keeping my 14 steri strips in place for the four days was tricky.

Another appointment on the 23rd and hoping a) not in nodes and b) he got it all and have clear margins.

As I’m triple positive my surgeon is now talking chemo which he wasn’t before.

Initially it was a caught early 8mm lumpectomy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment. I have my fingers crossed that we can stick to the original plan.

Warm regards Jax

Hi Jax1,

Glad you got through all that and sound positive. My story is secondary breast cancer detected the evening before surgery on my breast. All was cancelled when they found two extra tumours (ribs and neck). So I had radiotherapy, hormone treatment and targeted oral chemo. The found out after my radiotherpay that I am hypersensitive to the rayons and will need to seriously adapt the treatment if I need any more. So I’m hanging in there and following the treatment and trying to live normally with all that. Hope you are being followed by an oncologist?

I found the forum and have had great support and advice, I have been very open about my fight, which is what it is, both in french and English! French people just tell me to get signed off work and do nothing, but that it my worst fear! They just haven’t got the British stiff upper lip. Treatment here has been second to none and I doff my cap at all the doctors nurses and surgeons and parcour sein….my oncologist has actually asked that I have the last appointment of the day so we can chat more!
