Thermometer recommendation

Hi, is there a particular thermometer that people recommend to be easy and accurate?

I believe an ear thermometer is the most accurate. I got mine off Amazon, many to choose from.

I was given a traditional mercury style one from Velindre cancer centre but also had a Braun digital in ear one at home. I used the old style one daily and if my temperature was iffy I’d taken with the in ear to double check.

I don’t think any are better than others. I would make sure they are purchased from a reputable store.

I bought the cheapest Braun in ear from Amazon and it consistently measured me 2° too high. I replaced with the same and had the same erratic measurement- that’s gone back too. Eventually I paid about £40 for a Braun in ear and this has been very reliable.

Hello rfg

Thank you for your post.

The NHS recommend using a digital thermometer, you should follow the instructions on how to use it to ensure you get accurate results.

They do not recommend the following thermometers:

  • a glass thermometer because they can be dangerous
  • an infrared thermometer because some do not meet UK regulations

forehead strips because they’re not accurate
