That is absolutely shocking. You deserve better. Could you go to a tribunal or get your Union involved? I was lucky that I worked for the Care Quality Commission and they treated employees fairly

I actually was diagnosed the week before I started a brand new job. I told them straight away and, because my care team were so on the ball, was able to give them a pretty solid treatment plan upfront.
And although they appear outwardly supportive on a practical level (i.e. saying and doing all the HR approved things!), I always have this vibe that they are secretly eye rolling in the background because they are now legally stuck with the “cancer person”. I obviously don’t know for sure if this is the case and I am open to the idea that I may be projecting with regards to this as I have always felt quite awkward there because of my diagnosis.
However one thing I’m definitely not projecting is that my manager is quite unevenly tempered in general and I feel like I’ve no idea which version of them I’m going to get from one minute to the next. I managed and tiptoed around my last manager’s chaotic moods for nearly 15 years, but I actually find living like this quite exhausting nowadays and would much prefer to leave that person behind instead of try to adjust to them.
Alas I’m potentially facing five months of chemo in the very near future so realistically, I think my chances of getting hired elsewhere with that looming are probably slim!
Edited to say “care team” instead of “team care”, although I do like the idea of Team Care!

Just keep as steely as you can in the circumstances. It could happen to everyone of them and that might cure them of being job’s worths. Grit your teeth and smile through them. You need to put yourself first and that is that. Sometimes it is the right thing to be Selfish.
