Hi All I recently had a bilateral mastectomy with diep reconstruction at the end of August since the surgery I have had a problem with my throat it feels like there is something stuck in my throat I was referred to ear, nose and throat and the doctor said my uvula had swollen due to the incubation and would heal and go down on its own in time, it’s been a month now and it seemed to get better but now I have that feeling something is in my throat again so seems to have got worse. I just wondered if anyone elsw had this as it’s getting me down and wondering if it will go? Thanks
I haven’t experienced this - I know it can happen though it does seem likes it’s been going on for a long time . I don’t know for sure but maybe Ibuprofen if you’re able to take it might help with the swelling but as it got better and now feels worse again I think you should probably go back to your GP or if they’ve told you to contact them directly ask to be seen again just in case there’s any infection there . Xx
Hi JoannaN thank you for your response. I did take ibuprofen and soluble paracetamol for the post surgery pain and have been coming off them but will start them again and see if that helps I’ll also book a gp appointment as it does feel a while now although they told me to be patient thanks!
I didn’t get this after my Diep, but I did after an operation a few years back. I was eventually given antibiotics and it got better almost straight away! I’m surprised they haven’t suggested that to you? Could be worth asking? x
Hi Diddy1
Thank you for sharing your experience sorry that you had this as well, it’s not a nice feeling at all. I will definitely see if I can get antibiotics if that worked, thank you
Forgot to say that if you’ve been given steroids at any point either by mouth or inhaler for the swelling or anything else that can cause oral thrush which I have experienced when double dosing on my steroid inhaler which I was instructed to do for a very bad cold and cough. Although it was mainly on my tongue it was also on my uvula and epiglottis and was most unpleasant but a few days of over the counter treatment and decreasing the inhaler dose again shifted it within a few days.
