Timing of follow up mammogram

Hi. I’m waiting for a call back from my local centre but wondering whether you can clarify whether it is too soon for my first post treatment mammogram.

I had surgeries last November and December (single mastectomy and then clearance) , finished chemo at the end of July and radiotherapy end of September and been called for my mammogram today.

Is it too soon from end of active treatment?

Many thanks

Hi @rizlacat95. I think our nurses will be able to help with this here: Ask our Nurses your questions - Breast Cancer Now forum

You can also speak to one of our nurses urgently on the phone, reach them on our free helpline 0808 800 6000. We’re here if you need us.

I truly hope you are able to get some answers soon.

Best wishes,

Chloe

Hi @rizlacat95

I had my first-post mammogram on the anniversary of my initial breast clinic mammogram when I was referred by my GP on finding a lump, which was also the day I was diagnosed. That was in December 2020 and my post op chemo/rads finished early/mid-July 2021. I’ve had my annual mammograms around the same December date every year since.

Hope that helps.

Mine seems a bit random. Diagnosed early June last year, 1st Op early August, 2nd Op early September, RT beginning of January.

Annual mammogram a few weeks ago end of October, get results in December :slightly_smiling_face:

I would guess it should have been 12 months after my last surgery. Hope all goes well.

Hi Rizlacat95,

I was diagnosed in October 2022 and have had 3 follow up mammograms, all on the anniversary of the original diagnosis rather than when my treatment was completed. I, like a lot of people, became very anxious when I got the appointment but the radiographer was very gentle and put me at ease.

hope all goes well x

I was told my first annual mammogram was likely to be around the first anniversary of my surgery.
