I’m starting weekly Taxol treatment in a few days (after 3 EC’s). Because I know Taxol may attack my nails I’ve started several week ago using special nail varnish that was recommended to me by my pharmacist. What a difference! I never had such strong nails as now! So I want to share this tip: it’s called SI-NAILS Varnish from AURIGA International. There’s also the special remover for the SI-Nails Varnish which contains no acetone.
I hope it will help during Taxol treatment…
Sounds good! I used OnicoLife drops and Manuka honey hand cream and had no trouble with nails.
I found the chemo made my toenails very brittle so I just filed them with a non-metal file as cutting seemed so tricky. . I did not want to put anything on the nails as they were falling out…
Cath48 how did you get on with you nails in the end ?
There is also a product called Evonail which is manufactured in France which you can buy off the internet. I used it on my nails through out my treatment ( 3 x FEC and 3 xT) and my nails survived. My top tip is to keep using it for at least 6 months post the last round of docetaxel especially on your finger nails. It is the UV from the sun which combined with the docetaxel causes the damage. My oncologist also told me that your toe nails grow much slower than finger nails so it takes longer for them to recover.
