Tips to get rid of oral thrush

Hi,

I’ve had 3 cycles of TAC chemo so far, with 3 more to go. I’ve had thrush in my mouth every time which is yuck!
Onc gave me Nystatin for first 2 cycles which didn’t work so prescribed Fluconazol for the most recent one. It worked brilliantly but had to wait for 7 days after my chemo before I could take it and I start suffering from the thrush after 1 day!

Any tips on how I can get rid of it quicker? It’s really horrid and makes the nausea worse.

Thanks

Hi
I was given fluconazole, 50ml for 5 days but I did not have to wait to take it. Have you been given the 150ml single dose? Maybe that is thought to be too strong immediately after the chemo. Might be worth your asking about it at your next session.

hi definately ask i didnt have to wait to start taking my fluconazole either so i would double check with your onc, and ask if you can take it earlier as a preventative thing i also found brushing my gums and tongue gently with my toothbrush helped too gross i know but it seemed to keep the furry white coat down a bit, other than that swill pure pineapple juice around your mouth and spit it out it helps a bit i found.

i had thrush every chemo, and lost my taste pretty much the whole time i had 6 tax,
good luck keep us posted liz xxx
